Titanium Dental Implants

What are dental implants made of? And how do I know that I'm not going to be allergic to it? Or my body's not going to reject it? Well, let me first start off by telling you that dental implants have a high success rate, as high as 97% to 99% in most cases. The chance of a patient having an allergic reaction to a dental implant is extremely rare. Dental implants are made out of titanium, and a special class of titanium that are medical grade that are used in also, like orthopedics. Doctors use it for back surgeries as well and hip surgeries. The dental implants that are made out of titanium, we found out a long time ago through research that bone loves titanium and it fuses very well to titanium, so it's a very strong bond. And in actuality, when a person actually has to have a well-integrated dental implant removed for whatever reason, it's actually much harder to remove a dental implant than it is a tooth root. This is why dental implants are so strong. Now the part that goes over the dental implant is usually made out of different materials. In some cases, it's made out of zirconia, which is a very, very strong metal. And there's also a substances such as porcelain, and then there's a metal base to that, you know, under that porcelain that's fused to it. Typically in our office, zirconia is our go-to material for restorations because we hardly see any problems. There's a very low chance of anything fracturing or breaking off of that crown. All of these materials we use in this office are great and they're very highly biocompatible and can also withstand patients who are heavy grinders or clenchers.
