Tooth Extraction
Do I Need a Tooth Extraction?
Severe pain, gum swelling, and visible tooth fractures can all be indicative of a serious dental problem. However, there is no way to know for sure if you need extraction unless you see a dentist for an exam.
If you suspect a problem with one or more of your teeth, contact our McKinney dental office as soon as possible. The sooner you see the dentist, the more likely we can provide restorative treatment to save your natural teeth.

"I can’t recommend a better dentist"
Best dentist I’ve ever been to. I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled and they’ve called to check in and also had a post op appointment after a week to make sure I’m healing good! Already have my next appointment set up and they make me feel like family when I walk in the door. I can’t recommend a better dentist.

What To Expect During The Procedure
Recovery Instructions
Keep Mouth Clean
Be careful to avoid the extraction site when brushing your teeth for a few days after your procedure. To keep the area clean, you can gently swirl some antibacterial mouthwash or salt water around your gums.
Eat Soft Foods
We recommend eating a soft foods diet for a few days to avoid removing the blood clot over the extraction site (a complication known as dry socket). It is important to refrain from using a straw for the first 48 hours, as this can also cause dry socket.
Manage Side Effects
Side effects like minor swelling and sensitivity are normal, especially in the first 48 hours after tooth extraction. You can take an over-the-counter pain reliever as needed to help manage discomfort. Your dentist may also prescribe an antibiotic to prevent infection.
Replacing an Extracted Tooth Premium Restorative Options
Undergoing tooth extraction does not mean you will have to live with a gap in your smile permanently. You have several options to replace the missing tooth. In addition to dental-implants traditional dental bridges, which are secured by crowns placed on adjacent natural teeth, Dr. Khodabakhsh can restore your tooth with a dental implant.
An implant is a small titanium post inserted into the jawbone in place of the missing tooth roots. When the implant heals, it is capped with a custom-made crown that looks and feels just like a natural tooth. In some cases, we can even provide implants on the same day as your tooth extraction to significantly cut down your restorative treatment timeline. Read more about implants, and contact our Mckinney office today to set up a consultation to see if dental implants are right for you.
